Tzatziki, a classic Greek dip, is a perfect blend of thick double cream Greek yogurt, drained grated cucumber, fragrant dill, garlic, and a dash of olive oil and vinegar. This cool, creamy, and tangy dip is not just incredibly easy to make, but also remarkably versatile.

To start, choose the right ingredients. Authentic thick Greek yogurt—is the base of this dip. Combine this with grated cucumber—make sure to squeeze out the extra juice to prevent the dip from getting watery. Stir in minced garlic for a hint of warmth, add chopped fresh dill for its unique brightness, and finally, season with a little salt. Top it off with a splash of vinegar for acidity and a generous drizzle of Greek olive oil for a smooth finish.

Tzatziki serves as a delightful dip for warm pita bread, a refreshing salad dressing, or a perfect complement to grilled meats. This Greek classic will not only impress your guests but also transport you to the sun-drenched shores of Greece.

Ingredients:

2 cups of authentic Greek yogurt
1 medium cucumber
2-3 cloves of garlic, minced
2 tablespoons of fresh dill, chopped
Salt, to taste
1-2 tablespoons of vinegar
2 tablespoons of Greek olive oil

Steps:

  1. Start by preparing your cucumber. Wash it well and grate it into a bowl.
  2. Once grated, squeeze out the excess juice from the cucumber. This is important as it prevents the dip from becoming too watery. You can do this by placing the grated cucumber in a clean kitchen towel and squeezing it over the sink.
  3. In a separate mixing bowl, add the Greek yogurt.
  4. Stir the squeezed grated cucumber into the Greek yogurt.
  5. Add the minced garlic to the mixture. Remember, the amount can be adjusted based on your preference for the taste of garlic.
  6. Stir in the freshly chopped dill.
  7. Season your mixture with salt, to taste.
  8. Add the vinegar to the mix for that hint of acidity. Adjust the amount based on how tangy you like your dip.
  9. Finally, drizzle the Greek olive oil into the mixture. This will give your dip a smooth finish.
  10. Stir everything together until well combined.

Notes:

For the best flavour, refrigerate your dip for a couple of hours before serving. This allows all the flavours to meld together beautifully.

Serve your Greek yogurt and cucumber dip with pita bread, fresh veggies, or as a sauce for grilled meats. Enjoy!

Please remember to adjust the amount of ingredients according to your preference.
